Michaelangelo Iansito started playing drums at the age of thirteen and has now been playing for over seven years learning and loving all musical styles and genres, including but not limited to, jazz, rock, fusion, latin, and progressive. He specializes in drum set and percussion, but is familiar with a variety of other instruments - including piano, bass guitar, and tenor recorder.
Mikey was enrolled in private music studies with renowned jazz drummer John Hvasta, for over 5 years. And also studied under Modern Drummer's Karl Lathatm for over a year while pursuing his associate degree in Music and Liberal Arts. He is the main writer, audio engineer, and producer of his own band. He has also worked at one of the premier studios in North Jersey for over a year, engineering and playing under clients such as Gregg Allman (The Allman Brothers Band), and Jason Corsaro (audio engineer for Madonna, Fleetwood Mac, and Duran, Duran).
In school Mikey was constantly involved in jazz programs amd music courses. He has had the privilage to teach drums and audio engineering at Daytop Rehabilitation Center in Mendham.
Teaching adolescents coming from various backgrounds and ages has allowed him not only to observe, but be a part of the musical growth and development of his students, seeing first hand how music helps to shape and impact young lives.
Have a principle understanding of technique and music theory, Mikey works towards the goal of helping build the foundation of a great player. He specializes in getting drummers of all ages on the right path. He emphasizes music reading/literacy, proper practice routines, technique, and having fun playing a fantastic instrument. One that he is passionate about so that his students can transfer his enthusiam into their own playing! Mikey is available for lessons on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday.
