Mark Vaccaro has been a part of the NY/NJ music scene for over 35 years. He started playing drums at age 11 and is still going strong. Past teachers have included Joey Cass (The Four Seasons), Lou Oddo (NY/NJ session player - mallets), Michael Hinton (Broadway, Airto & Flora, Films), Nick Cerrato (Broadway), Rich DeRosa (Gerry Mulligan Band, Marian McPartland) & the late Roland Kohloff (Timpanist – NY Philharmonic, The Julliard School).
His love of music has crossed many styles. He has taught privately and in NJ school systems and has played for numerous projects including regional/dinner theater productions (Livingston Players, Chatham Players), orchestras (Metropolitan Orchestra, Plainfield Symphony, and Livingston Symphony), numerous studio sessions and even parades. Some past original and cover bands have included The Dom DiGioia Group, Nexus, Wave, Naughty Milton, Walk the Talk, Frankie Goes to Englewood, Hat Trick and the Santana tribute band – Stone Flower. He has performed with a diverse array of performers including Marilyn Horne, Vic Juris, Rae Serrano and Mark Radice.
While in the US Navy Mark was asked to lead and conduct the Navy Recruit Band, a group of mostly amateur musicians. The Recruit Band was asked to perform many additional performances/ venues as substitutes for the professional US Navy Band due to the outstanding level of musicianship they achieved under his tutelage. While in the service he was able to perform in Thailand, The Philippines and Hong Kong.
Mark holds a Bachelors Degree in Music from Jersey City State College (now New Jersey City University) and resides in Garfield, New Jersey.
